Civic issues
Topics getting the most attention in Bowie public meetings, ranked by how frequently they come up.
Construction Halt on City Project
Bowie has hit pause on construction of its IcePlex ice arena — the rink project is now on hold. The city hasn't spelled out publicly why work stopped, so residents who were counting on the rink (and taxpayers watching the budget) are left waiting for answers.
Ice Arena Project Cancellation
Bowie’s council scrapped the planned ice arena, so there won’t be a new local rink for hockey, figure skating, or recreational skating. If you were counting on closer, more available ice time, that plan is now off the table.
Land Acquisition
Bowie’s City Council wants to buy the 180-acre former Bowie Race Track site, a massive parcel that could shape where and how the city grows. No purchase price or redevelopment plan is in the source yet, so the big question is what the city gets for the money.
